SCHOOL VISITS: K - 8
A typical school visit consists of two or three sessions (either large group presentations or smaller writing workshops) and booksignings. I have one presentation for the younger group (K-3) and one for 4-8. I talk about the path to publication, following your heart, the importance of perseverance and setting goals, and give research and writing tips.

WENDY GIVES KIDS A CHOICE AT MILLBROOK
I loved my visit to Millbrook Middle School! Besides being so enthusiastic about reading and writing stories, they really threw themselves into the Authors for Earth Day project! Handmade posters for each organization covered the walls (some of them in funny and surprising places) as they drummed up support for votes. The 7th graders did PSA's over the loudspeaker each morning, and the 6th graders made slideshows diving deeper into the good work the five groups are doing to help the environment. The Humane Society of New York will be the recipient of the donation, but the other groups got a nice percentage of votes too!
Some grades used paper ballots, and others did a show of hands. The school discovered that voters might be swayed to change their vote if they could see what others chose, so after seeing that, they did the show of hands with eyes closed! Thank you to super-librarian Cathie Morton and the social studies teachers who did such a great job motivating the kids!
