SCHOOL VISIT: K-5
My author visits are a dynamic, behind-the-scenes look at my entire bookmaking process, from the initial ideas and on-location research to the final marks on paper. Using sketches, photos, and footage from the field, I deliver a unique presentation on what I do and what I've learned: Why do I write nonfiction picture books? How do I approach my research? What kinds of mistakes have led to my biggest breakthroughs? Students will have fun and feel inspired to create, to discover, and to learn more about the way things live.

KATHERINE FUELS CONSERVATION
A huge thanks to the wonderful students and staff at Philomath Elementary who made my first Authors for Earth Day school visit a huge success! As part of my participation I agreed to donate my speaking fee to one of my favorite elephant conservation organizations, and the students researched and voted on four nominees of my choosing. The classrooms cast their ballots and the school totaled the votes, and I'm delighted to report that the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Sanctuary was their top choice organization!
