One of the great pleasures of my job is spending time with young people. I write for kids because I respect them enormously and because my own childhood reading had a profound effect on me. As soon as I learned to "fall into" a story, I knew that I wanted to be part of the world of books. It took me many years, however, to take myself seriously as a writer. My advice to young thinkers, young writers, young scientists, young activists (young anythings) is this: Don't wait for someone else to give you permission to do what you want to do. The permission comes from within.

REBECCA GIVES KIDS A CHOICE AT THE GIRLS' MIDDLE SCHOOL
My event went great! But it was Skype, so no pictures, unfortunately! I gave the kids "animal causes" and they researched and then had a game-show style competition to choose which grade got to pick the organization. I wasn't there for that part but sounds like it was fun. The Honeybee Conservancy received the donation.
