SCHOOL VISITS: K - 5
After a rollicking, interactive opening assembly when I share my writing trajectory, a bunch of my poems, and some thoughts about the power of poetry to make us better writers, I spin off into classrooms to write with the kids in writing workshops all day, or for several days. Together we use the magic of poetry to open wide our hearts and imaginations, seeking to find the most powerful and delicious images and words to convey focused, important ideas and memories in poems.

TED FUELS CONSERVATION AT HALDANE

I presented to the third grade at Haldane Elementary in Cold Spring, NY on Friday, 5/4. Most of my school program work involves writing poems with the students—helping them write with open hearts and powerful imaginations as they uncover their own writers' voices. Our writing that day at Haldane was not directly related to Earth Day and A4ED, but the students had clearly done some research before my arrival, and at the end of the day we voted on my five NGOs. The kids picked the African Wildlife Foundation.
